AI Engineer — Automated Support for Healthcare

WeTal's customer is looking for an AI Engineer to join an exciting project. Together, we're building intelligent, AI-driven support systems for healthcare and pharma robotics, and we're looking for an AI Engineer to join a small, cross-border team.

This is a part-time consulting assignment where you'll work directly with — and report to — our CTO and CEO, helping us build our AI-based support and automation solution together from the ground up.

The mission: design and build AI-driven automatic support (voice and text/chat) that integrates with our CRM/MCP server and handles simple email replies — escalating to a human when needed. Remote work is welcome; our offices are in Stockholm and the Netherlands, and we operate across Sweden and Holland with partners in Norway, Finland, Iceland and Spain.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype and implement AI-driven automated support flows (voice and text/chat) that integrate with existing CRM/MCP backends.
• Build and improve LLM-based solutions — including AI agents, tool/function calling, and RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) — for intent understanding and dialogue management across chat and voice interfaces.
• Implement automatic email responders for routine inquiries, with reliable handover to human agents for complex cases.
• Integrate services via REST APIs and MCP, ensuring data flows between AI components and the CRM platform are secure and reliable.
• Deploy and maintain models and services (containerization, monitoring, CI/CD), and iterate on performance based on usage metrics and feedback.
• Collaborate closely with the CTO, CEO and product stakeholders; present prototypes, trade-offs and implementation plans.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience building and shipping AI/LLM-based solutions in production (voice or text/chat) — what you've actually built and deployed matters more to us than years on paper.
• Experience with LLM-based architectures: AI agents, tool/function calling, RAG, and prompt/context engineering.
• Experience integrating with CRM systems and/or MCP servers (or similar).
• Strong Python skills and hands-on experience with modern AI/LLM frameworks and toolkits.
• Experience building chatbots or conversational agents, and working with REST APIs.
• Practical experience with databases (PostgreSQL or similar), containerization (Docker) and deploying to cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent).
• Solid engineering practices: Git, testing, monitoring and a pragmatic approach to shipping iterations quickly.
• Good communication in English or Swedish; ability to work remotely and coordinate across international partners.
• Nice to have: experience in healthcare or pharma projects, voice integration experience, familiarity with telephony/voice platforms, or a classic NLP/ML background.
