How it all started
The year is 2017. Yet another conference on how to digitize health care for the benefit of all parties. The scientific community, researchers and professors, as well as the health-care professionals express their desire for shared knowledge to improve the well-being of patients living with a chronic disease. But there is one seat missing on the podium, the patient’s.
Meanwhile, the people living with chronic disease are vocal in patient organizations, on social media and in the health-care debate. They wish to learn more and take part in the discussion. For a long time the knowledge about medical treatment and science has been hard to access for the individual person. It has been a challenge to get a holistic view of it, and also to influence it. Is it finally time to change all this?
It turns out, it is.

Joining forces
At this juncture, a team of experts from various disciplines, and people with personal experience of living with chronic disease came together to try and bridge this gap. The scientific researchers welcomed insights from people diagnosed with chronic disease. Health-care providers and the pharma industry agreed that great knowledge would be gained by understanding how people feel and act between hospital visits, in their actual everyday lives.

Elsa Science Was Born
Elsa Science is a platform with a mission to strengthen all sides by finding, and following up on, the right treatment to the right patient. Through powerful and science-based motivational and educational support, the platform brings individuals, families, patient organizations, health-care providers, pharma companies and scientists closer together for a greater good – to learn from each other and support individuals diagnosed with chronic disease to live life to its fullest.
Through meaningful content and design, we aim to make science accessible and put it in the hands of the people living with a chronic disease. And through data sharing, individuals can invite the scientific and health-care community to draw experience from their real world. Elsa lets patients become their own personal researchers by providing them with a better understanding around how lifestyle factors may affect their disease activity measurements for chronic disease. We are currently focusing on giving support to patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). From a scientific perspective, Elsa gives access to data on rheumatic disease through the Riskminder foundation and scientific studies at Karolinska Institutet. Through this data, the patients will be able to see, among other things, how the prognosis of their disease is affected by medication adherence and lifestyle factors.

Elsa Science is growing and we are looking for empathic senior software developers (full-time employees or long-term freelancers) with different interests and skillsets to enrich our warm and passionate team on the journey of supporting people with a chronic disease to live life to its fullest.

Elsa was founded to change the fact that there is no science-based, individualised treatment support for people living with chronic disease to optimise their quality of life.
Our goal is to be a motivational and educational digital platform that brings individuals, families, health care providers, medical companies and scientists together through seamless data sharing and powerful communication for a greater good: to detect and manage the illness, improve healthcare and empower the individual to reach a new normal and live life to its fullest.
<h3>What you'll do</h3>
As a Senior Software Developer you will be a part of our 15 people (and growing) product team and contribute to improving the Elsa app and the systems around it.
On a day-to-day basis, you will:
<ul>
<li>develop mobile apps, websites, backend services and/or data pipelines</li>
<li>collaborate and discuss product, design and UX</li>
<li>contribute your skills, experience and creativity to form (and, when needed, question) strategic discussions, team building activities and innovative work</li>
</ul>
<h3>You probably have (most of the following):</h3>
<ul>
<li>a calling to impact people's lives for the better</li>
<li>experience with JavaScript/TypeScript or enough software development experience to pick up a new language fast</li>
<li>solid experience with K8s, React or React Native</li>
<li>worked at a startup or used agile development processes</li>
<li>willingness to coach, mentor and empower your team members</li>
</ul>
<h6>It is great if you have (any of the following):</h6>
<ul>
<li>scaled a popular app in terms of number of users, but also faster iteration and experimentation</li>
<li>used Pandas or Jupyter</li>
<li>built data analytics stacks using ELT</li>
<li>developed medical devices, SaMD or worked in regulated domains</li>
<li>worked with or are really interested in data privacy or system/information security</li>
</ul>
<h6>You need to be:</h6>
<ul>
<li>fluent in English</li>
<li>a team-player who thrives in dynamic working environment and a growing team</li>
